This targets hairs standing out from the style. If the whole head is frizzy, removing that would mean changing your texture, which it is explicitly told not to do.
Busy backgrounds
Stray hairs are found by contrast against what is behind them. Against a detailed background some are missed, and a plain wall gives a much cleaner result.
Deliberate texture
Beach waves, curls and undone styles rely on hairs that are technically strays. There is a real chance this tidies away something you liked.
It will not restyle
No straightening, curling, volumising, lengthening or shortening. If that is what you want, the hair style tool is the right one.

- Will it straighten my curls?
- No. Straightening, curling, volumising, shortening and lengthening are all explicitly ruled out. Grooming and stray-hair removal is the entire job — if you want a different texture, the hair style tool is the one you want.
- What counts as a flyaway?
- A hair standing out from the shape of your style, usually against the background. Frizz distributed evenly through the hair is texture rather than stray, and removing that would mean changing your hair, which this is told not to do.
- It removed hairs I liked.
- That is the real risk with undone styles. Beach waves, curls and deliberately messy looks rely on hairs that are technically strays. If a result came back tidier than you wanted, tell us and we will put the credit back.
- Does the background matter?
- More than you would expect. Strays are found by contrast against what is behind them, so a plain wall gives a much cleaner result than a busy room, where some are simply invisible to the tool.
- Will my hairline change?
- No. Hairline, density, length, colour, texture and overall shape are all named as things to preserve. The hairline is the one people notice immediately, which is why it is stated rather than assumed.
- Is this the same as a smoothing filter?
- No. A smoothing filter blurs the whole head and takes the strand detail with it. This removes specific hairs and leaves the rest, which is why it survives being looked at closely.
