About

See the look before you commit.

Uptone is a beauty preview tool. You upload a photo of yourself, pick a change — a hair colour, a cut, a lipstick shade, a set of nails, a pair of glasses, whiter teeth — and get the result on your own face, along with the reasoning and the steps to reproduce it.

Why it exists

Almost every beauty decision is made from a photograph of someone who is not you. A shade chart, a lookbook, a picture on a salon wall. The gap between that image and your own face is where the money gets wasted — the foundation that goes orange, the balayage that fights your skin tone, the fringe that turns out to be a nine-month commitment.

A preview closes some of that gap. Not all of it: a photograph cannot tell you how a colour will lift on your actual hair, and we say so on the pages where it matters. But seeing a change on your own face before you pay for it is a better starting point than imagining it from a stranger’s.

What it will not do

These are constraints in the product, not aspirations. They are written down in full on the safety page.

It never scores how you look

No rating, no percentile, no ranking against anyone. A number to feel bad about is not a decision you can act on.

It never calls a feature a flaw

Nothing here fixes, hides or corrects a feature. When we explain a choice we say what it works with, never what it makes up for.

You stay recognisable

A result that no longer looks like you is a failure, even when it is beautiful. Every tool holds identity, features and pose.

It does not diagnose

Uptone is not a dermatologist or a dentist. It previews how something looks in a photograph and does not assess conditions or recommend treatments.

How it makes money

Subscriptions, and nothing else. There is a free tier you can use without a card, and paid plans for people who generate a lot. We do not sell data, we do not take commission on any product or salon we mention, and there are no affiliate links in the guides — a recommendation that pays us is not a recommendation. The plans and what each includes are on the pricing page.

Your photos

Photos are used to produce the result you asked for. They are not used to train models, not sold, and not shared. What is stored, for how long, and how to delete it is set out on the privacy page.

Who builds it

Uptone is built and operated by Polo Studio, a small independent team. It is not backed by a beauty brand or a retailer, which is why nothing in the product steers you toward a particular product to buy. If you need to reach a person, the contact page has the address and what to expect back.
